The Dach und Holz takes place every 2 years in Germany. It alternates between Cologne and Stuttgart. This year was in Stuttgart which is the 6th largest city in Germany and home to the headquarters of Porsche and Mercedez-Benz.

In a 4 day span, over 52,000 visitors from 83 countries attend. The American IRE attracts roughly 14,000. There are 6 exhibit halls that vary in trade from sheet metal, carpentry, waterproofing, green roofs, solar, cranes, and safety. It’s a show that requires more than one day to visit.

I spent some time going around the show and to our partners. Here are some of the photos.

The Dach und Holz is a massive time committment for exhibitors with long, grueling show hours from 9am to 6pm, Tuesday through Friday. Not too many Americans venture over and I think that this is a mistake. It’s important to understand how different cultures think about their buildings and homes. Europe has a keen interest in going green and building sustainable homes to last generations. The USA could learn a tip or two.
